The Gangtey Festival, held in the autumn months of September and October according to the Buddhist lunar calendar, is a vibrant celebration in the beautiful Phobjikha Valley. It features sacred Mask Dances, local folk songs, and dances performed by both monks and locals in the courtyard of the Gangtey Monastery. Participants, dressed in intricately designed silk brocade costumes, celebrate their rich cultural heritage against the backdrop of the valley, which serves as a winter roosting ground for the rare black-necked cranes. The festival concludes with Nguedup Langwa, a special blessing ritual that empowers the people of Gangtey with spiritual wisdom and strength.

Note: To fully embrace the vibrant festivities and receive the festival’s delightful blessings, plan your tour to begin before 5th October. This ensures at least one full day of immersion in the limitless joy, cultural richness, and spiritual significance of the Paro Tshechu.
